Over seven years ago a small group of knitters at Bishop First United Methodist Church started a prayer shawl ministry. The shawls are given for healing, comfort, and solace, as well as celebrations and joyous occasions. They are given to church members, friends, people in the community, and even folks in other states in times of need.

The knitter or crocheter begins with a prayer for the recipient and prays throughout the creation process.  When the shawl is finished, it is blessed by a pastor.

If you are interested in becoming a “Knit-Wit”, please see Donna Turner or contact the church office for more information. We will get you in contact with other knitters who will happily share the pattern and get you started. If you do not knit or crochet, but would like to support this ministry, financial donations are always welcome.
