There are many ways to find support in your journey and grow in your faith!
We want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. We all come from different places, and have different gifts, but all have a place to grow and serve. Here is how you can learn, serve, and grow at Bishop First United Methodist Church.
Small Groups
Consider being part of a covenant disciple group. It is a confidential small group that focuses us to be accountable in
living out a life of discipleship.
Bible Study
Our children have an opportunity to learn more about the Bible in Sunday School. For Adults and youth, there are mid-week opportunities. Studying the Bible is encouraged and an important tool in helping us all grow in our discipleship, and being better equipped to live out our faith.
Children/Sunday School
Children begin by attending church starting at 9:30 am for about the first 15 minutes and are dismissed after the Time for Children, generally led by one of our pastors. From worship, they are shepherded to their Sunday school class by our teachers. Nursery care is available during the worship service for infants. We also have a Children’s Chimes Choir for rising 3rd graders and above. Vacation Bible School is held for one week during late summer.
The United Methodist Women’s group gives the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. Our women’s group include times of Bible study, prayer, a speaker, (and, of course, food). These groups provide a refreshing discipleship opportunity for the women in the church. Please see the Women’s group page on this website for more information on fellowship opportunities.
Men’s Group
The men meet at 7 am on Thursday mornings for prayer and study over breakfast.
Family Fellowship
These are regular fellowship events targeted to families with children and youth. Recent events have included a bowling outing, pool party, and BBQ. If you have an idea for an upcoming event or would like more information, please contact the church office or Pastor Matt.
Fireside Friends
Fireside Friends is a fellowship group at Bishop UMC for adults of any age. We meet once almost every month for food, fellowship and fun. We hope you will join us for any or all of the events where you will get to know others in our congregation over some very good food. Please contact the church office for more information.
Prayer Shawl Ministry “Knit-Wits”
Over five years ago a small group of knitters at Bishop First United Methodist Church started a prayer shawl ministry. The shawls are given for healing, comfort, and solace, as well as celebrations and joyous occasions. The knitter begins with a prayer for the recipient and prays throughout the knitting process. When the shawl is finished, it is blessed by Pastor Erin and/or Pastor Matt. They also make warm scarves and hats for Soup Kitchen guests. If you are interested in becoming a “Knit-Wit” the knitters will happily share the pattern and get you started.
Music Ministry
Opportunities include the vocal choir, bell choir, and children’s chimes choir. Music has long been a strength of worship and one of the ways that many of our congregation participate in worship. The choir rehearses at 7 pm on Wednesdays, and the Hosanna Handbells with practice at 4 pm on Wednesdays.
